Michael E. Humphreys
Michael E. Humphreys,
Mike, born Feb 1893, apprentice baker,
emigrated to America 1912,
"Michael Humphreys", age 19, single,
from Limerick, arrived at
Ellis Island, NY,
on 7th Apr 1912 on the
Caronia
from
Queenstown,
see
passenger record,
ship's manifest says born Limerick, 5 ft 8 in tall, brown hair,
and says he is going to join his cousin
Henry O'Connell [unidentified],
think 345, Newark Ave, Jersey, NJ,
just a couple of days later, on 11th Apr,
the Titanic
left Queenstown
(last stop before the Atlantic, where it sunk),
the family story was that
he was meant to get on
the Titanic at Queenstown
but he met an old friend, went off drinking, missed it,
but this is obviously not true,
he was in America before the Titanic even sailed,
obviously he could easily have gone
on the Titanic though,
it was not unusually expensive for poor emigrants to take 3rd class on such a ship,
there were low-income Irish emigrants taken on board at Queenstown,
