Guiney

Ned Guiney was supposed to be a "cousin" of William Nolan who he was apprenticed to.
This may be confusion with his wife Aileen Mangan, who was a relative of William Nolan.





Michael Guiney listed as holding 21 acres at "Gourbane", Kilmoylan par, in [Tithe Survey, 1833].
Renting from Thomas Spring Rice, 1st Baron Monteagle (although he was not cr Baron until 1839).

of "Gourbawn", Shanid Lower townland, Kilmoylan par, near Shanagolden, Co.Limerick.
"Gourbawn" (the Guiney house) was close to "Gourbane" (the Mangan house), both in Shanid Lower, SW of Shanagolden.
[Eilis Guiney] has more on his genealogy, except she gets his name wrong as "Thomas".
His name is listed as "Michael" at son's marriages.
"Michael Guiney" is listed in [Griffiths Valuation, 1852] as occupying plot 5, of 44 acres (with a very small house) in Shanid Lower.
He had issue:

  1. Thomas Guiney,
    Tom, born 1840 or 1841 [ages given at marriages] or 1838 [by age on grave].
    He was a farmer, of "Gourbawn", near Shanagolden.
    Listed as farmer, of Gourbawn, at marriage.
    He mar 1stly, 1 Feb 1870, to Bridget Purtill [born 1850, dau of Michael Purtill].
    They mar at Kilcolman RC Church, near Shanagolden. See entry in [GROI].
    Bridget died.
    He had issue by 1st wife:


    1. Michael Guiney,
      born 1871,
      had issue:

      1. William Guiney, Willie.
        He mar Eilis O'Sullivan [Elizabeth].
        Eilis made out family tree c.1960s.


    Thomas is listed as widower, farmer, of Gourbawn, at 2nd marriage.
    He mar 2ndly, 24 Feb 1881, to Kate Purtill [Catherine, born 1846 or 1848, dau of Edmond Purtill].
    They mar at Kilcolman RC Church. See entry in [GROI].
    She was cousin of his 1st wife Bridget.
    Kate died 1896.
    He died 1924.
    He had issue by 2nd wife:


    1. Ned Guiney,
      Edward, Edward Joseph Guiney,
      born 13 Nov 1883, "Gourbawn", near Shanagolden [GROI].

Guiney is listed as holding plot 5 ("Gourbawn") in [Griffiths Valuation, 1852].
Mangan is holding plot 3 ("Gourbane") just to the N.
