Alexander Gibbon


Alexander Gibbon,
bapt 5 May 1773, Aberdeen.
He was a merchant, ship-owner. Partner with his brother James.
He and his brother James were co-owners of the Dolphin (built 1798, though it is possibly 1825 when they are listed as co-owners).
He and his brother James were co-owners of the Tyne (built 1808, though it is possibly 1824 when they are listed as co-owners).
He was co-owner of the Waterloo (built 1815, launched July 1815).

He mar 1stly, 18 Aug 1815, to Jessie Galloway [or Jessie Ann, or Jessy, or Janet].
They mar at St.Nicholas', Aberdeen, or possibly in Glasgow.
Alexander Gibbon and James Gibbon, merchants, are listed with an office at 31 Quay, Aberdeen in [Aberdeen Directory, 1824-25]. And listed there in [Aberdeen Directory, 1829-30]. And up to 1834-35.
Alexander Gibbon is listed as living next door at 30 Quay, Aberdeen in [Aberdeen Directory, 1824-25]. And listed there in [Aberdeen Directory, 1829-30]. And up to 1833-34.
Jessie died 1826.

Alexander mar 2ndly, 1830, to Elizabeth Mary Martin.
He died 1833, age 60 yrs.
He was buried on 26 Aug 1833.
"Mrs. Alexander Gibbon" is listed at 30 Quay in [Aberdeen Directory, 1834-35].
"Mrs. Alexander Gibbon" is listed at 5 Affleck St, Aberdeen, in [Aberdeen Directory] 1835-36. And up to 1837-38.
"Mrs. Elizabeth Gibbon" is listed at Affleck St in [Pigot's directory of Scotland, 1837].
Alexander had issue by 1st wife:


  1. James Gibbon,
    bapt 8 July 1816 [St.Nicholas', Aberdeen], NOT son of William Gibbon,
    bur 9 Nov 1816 in Aberdeen area, age 4 months.

  2. James Gibbon,
    bapt 18 Feb 1819 [St.Nicholas', Aberdeen].


  3. Alexander Galloway Gibbon,
    bapt 26 Dec 1820 [St.Nicholas', Aberdeen].
    Emigrated to America.
    He mar pre-1858 to Elspeth Spence and had issue.


  4. Sophia Gibbon,
    bapt 29 Aug 1822 [St.Nicholas', Aberdeen].

  5. Jessie Gibbon,
    bapt 19 Mar 1824 [St.Nicholas', Aberdeen].

  6. David Scott Gibbon,
    bapt 9 Aug 1825 [St.Nicholas', Aberdeen],
    bur 15 May 1826 in Aberdeen area, age 9 months.
