Richard de Clare, 6th Earl of Gloucester


Richard de Clare, 6th Earl of Gloucester,
and 5th Earl of Hertford,
born 1222.

He died 1262.
He was buried at Tewkesbury Abbey, Gloucestershire. There was a fine tomb in the Lady Chapel at Tewkesbury Abbey. The entire Lady Chapel was later demolished. Nothing remains.
He had issue:


  1. Gilbert de Clare, 7th Earl of Gloucester.


  2. Thomas de Clare, Lord of Thomond,
    born c.1245.
    He mar 1275 to Juliane Fitzgerald.
    He killed Brian Ruagh O'Brien, King of Thomond in 1277.
    He died 1287.
    Thomas and Juliane had issue:

    1. Maud de Clare, mar Robert Clifford, 1st Baron Clifford and had issue.

    2. Margaret de Clare, mar Bartholemew de Badlesmere and had issue:

      1. Elizabeth de Badlesmere, mar William de Bohun, 1st Earl of Northampton and had issue.

      2. Maud de Badlesmere, mar John de Vere, 7th Earl of Oxford and had issue.
