Various trees on Ancestry
have thought our
David Tuohy
could be this David Tuohy.
However, this seems impossible.
Catherine here is too young to be our
Kitty Tuohy.
A 13 year old would not be getting engaged to be married to a 23 year old.

He started working out of Liverpool in the 1750s.
He was involved
in the Atlantic slave trade
in at least 1765 to 1786.
He moved permanently to Liverpool in 1771.
He became one of the wealthiest merchants in Liverpool.

Tuohy in a Blennerhassett deed
The following
John Tuohy is party to a deed with Blennerhassett in 1817.

He
is party to
[Deed, May 1817]
with
Sir Rowland Blennerhassett, 1st Baronet.
There are a number of townlands
called Meanus
in Co.Kerry.
The deed refers to land at Gortloughra, Killorglin par
(quite a distance S of Killorglin),
and other lands in Barony of Dunkerron North.
The Tuohy home must be one of two neighbouting townlands called
Meanus, one in Killorglin par, one in Knockane par,
both in Barony of Dunkerron North.
These are SE of Killorglin town,
between Mount Rivers and Churchtown House.
John had issue (sons named in deed):
- Michael Tuohy, born about 1800.
- John Tuohy, born about 1803.
- James Tuohy, born about 1814.
Charles Tuohy, Bishop of Limerick
Basil O'Connell in
letter of 21 July 1969
thinks our Tuohy family might be related to
Charles Tuohy, Catholic Bishop of Limerick.
Not sure what his evidence is.
The Bishop's family starts with:
- Darby Tuohy,
or Derby.
He was a vintner, in Main St, Limerick city.
Listed as such in [Directory of Limerick, 1769].
He died 1785-1793.
His wife died Wed 25 Sept 1793, in Nicholas Street, Limerick.
Darby and his wife
had issue:
- Charles Tuohy,
born 1754, Limerick.

Returned to Ireland.

Co.Limerick, 1808 to 1812 (or maybe to 1814).
RC Bishop of Limerick 1814 to 1828.
He died 17 March 1828.

(built in 1816 during his tenure).
He is not mentioned in
The Diocese of Limerick, ancient and medieval,
by John Begley, 1906.
Darby Tuohy listed on p.18 of
[Directory of Limerick, 1769].
A notice in the Limerick Chronicle,
31 Oct 1785.
"A parcel of fresh teas ... to be sold reasonable by wholesale or retail by William
Herbert, in the house where Mr Derby Tuohy lives, in the Englishtown, Limerick."
