Leicester House - The site today
The site of the vanished
Leicester House, Crumlin
today.
Leicester House
was on the main East-West Drimnagh Rd / Crumlin Rd.
It was demolished in 1982-1985. Probably around 1983.
The location is now at the junction of
Errigal Rd
(see
map).
Leicester House site.
Overlay of
1887 to 1913 map
and
modern map.
Site is W side of Errigal Rd.
To E side of Errigal Rd
is
Our Lady's Children's Hospital, Crumlin.
The site of
Leicester House is now completely cleared and is occupied by a new building, the
Children's Medical and Research Foundation.
- There is absolutely nothing visible today.
See street view
of the corner.
-
I had thought that a small part of the wall on Errigal Rd might be old.

and

-
But looking at old maps and photos, I am not sure any more that it is old.
The stables
The stables are the only part of the Leicester House property that survives.
These were to the W side, set back from the road.
They were
built after the 1887 to 1913 map.
The stables
survive today, converted into a row of houses,
on Drimnagh Rd.
Local resident Maurice Kelly says:
"the stables for Leicester House were converted into houses.
I grew up in one ... They are the smaller houses adjacent to Magnum Tyres.
Myself and my friends found numerous horse shoes in the gardens in the 1970s."
