Easily legible is "Iohannes Michelgrove senior" and the year "millesimo cccclviii" (1458).

John Michelgrove, the elder,
of Michelgrove, Sussex.
He mar Mary Sidney [dau of William Sidney].
Mary was said to be dau of "the first William Sidney of Penshurst Place". But this is impossible given the dates. That William Sidney was born 1482.
Mary must be dau of an earlier William Sidney.
John died 20 Jan 1459 (at the time regarded as end of 1458).

John and Mary had issue:

1. John Michelgrove, the younger.
   Knight of the shire in 1445.
   He died in his father's lifetime, 20 Aug 1458.

2. Elizabeth Michelgrove.
   [Hutchinson, 2008] says born 1460. Born after father's death is possible, but not as much as 12 months after.
   She inherited Michelgrove.
   She mar 1474 to John Shelley and had issue.
